Can My Business Participate?

At the heart of the Environmental Respect Awards is a desire to encourage and honor efforts of environmental stewardship. Every day around the world, retailers serving agricultural producers with crop protection products and services have an opportunity to help preserve and protect the environment even as they meet the needs of their customers. It's this day-to-day professionalism that we wish to recognize.

What's Required to Enter?

There are really only three requirements for your business involvement:
  1. You must be a crop input supplier or distributor, or involved in vegetation management in one of the specified regions where the Environmental Respect Awards effort is being conducted. Your business must be a customer of DuPont Crop Protection in that area.
  2. You must fill out and send to us your "Environmental Respect Awards Self-audit Entry Booklet," available through your authorized DuPont representative or on the Internet at www.croplife.com

What Will Be Honored?

It's our intent to honor those businesses and physical plants that show initiative and progress in the following areas:
  • Physical Plant Improvements - containment and pollution prevention
  • Waste Minimization - source reduction, recycling programs
  • Product Safety/Proper Use Education - handling and application safety
  • Customer Involvement - working with customers on stewardship
  • Emergency Response Readiness - emergency plans and contact with responders
  • Personal Commitment - involvement in stewardship efforts
  • Community Outreach - speaking out on environmental issues
  • Educational Enrichment - attending programs to better stewardship skill
  • Employee Education - safety and environmental education
  • Innovative Technology - using new technology to improve stewardship
In general, we honor those operations that are conducting businesss in a way consistent with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations International Code of Conduct for the Distribution and Use of Pesticides.

How Can My Business Win?

You and your business will win simply by considering and answering the questions posed within the Self-audit Entry Booklet. Many participants have found ideas for improving their facilities in the process of entering. In addition, we will honor all those who participate.

Another key part of award-winning entries is the photographs provided of the competing business. These photos help the selection committee gain a full understanding of your effort toward environmental stewardship.

As you consider entering the Environmental Respect Awards, it may be helpful to ask yourself these questions about the business you are a part of:
  1. Are you demonstrating environmental stewardship and professional leadership in plant-site compliance, proper application techniques and retail outlet safety?
  2. Can you show your display of concern for customer service and safety and promotion of environmental stewardship among customers?
  3. Do your day-to-day activities illustrate an active participation in environmental stewardship and safety education for employees, customers, and the community?

If you answer "YES" to these questions, you are likely to compete well in the Environmental Respect Awards.

If My Business Won Last Year, Can We Participate Again?

United States
There are three levels of participation in the United States: state, regional, and national. If your business wins a state award, you can continue re-entering that location to try to win a regional or national award. However, that location cannot be named a state winner again. If your business is a regional winner and does not win the national award, that location may not enter the program again.

Asia Pacific, Eastern Europe and Latin America
There are three levels for participation in the Asia Pacific, Eastern Europe and Latin America regions: merit awards, a country champion award for each participating country, and an ambassador award for each region. If your business wins a merit award, you can re-enter that location in another year to win a country champion or ambassador honor. If your business is a country champion but did not receive the ambassador award, that location can re-enter in another year to try for the ambassador award. Once your business is honored at the ambassador level, that location may not enter the program again.

Our Company Has Many Plant Locations. If One of Our Locations Wins, Does That Affect Other Locations?

Environmental Respect Awards are given by location. Therefore, if your company has multiple locations, you can enter each of those locations separately. Each location will have the opportunity to win at all levels of the program as described above.

Retail and distribution operations face different challenges from town to town, country to country and region to region. Different crops, climates and transportation challenges require different solutions to serve customers and protect the environment. It's this spirit of stewardship that we wish to honor with the Environmental Respect Awards.
