Agricultural Distributors in Four Regions Honored for Environmental Stewardship

Winners from the Asia Pacific, Middle East/Africa, Brazil and Mexico/Central America regions have been selected as Ambassadors of Respect for the 2009 Environmental Respect Awards. The Ambassadors were honored at a special ceremony on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., USA Thursday, July 9. Winners were selected April 23 and May 5 via teleconference selection events. Those honored in Washington include:

Chawalitkitkaset Chaing Rai, Thailand
Quimical, S.A. de C.V., Mexico
Agriculture Materials Company, Morocco
America Insumos, Brazil

The Environmental Respect Awards, sponsored by DuPont Crop Protection, CropLife® magazine and Farm Chemicals International® magazine, honor outstanding environmental stewardship among those who supply farmers with inputs crucial to safe and effective crop production around the world. These winners exemplify environmental care in areas of security, risk management, product handling and use, worker safety, and education and outreach to their communities.

The Ambassadors of Respect travelled to the United States to be honored at a special ceremony in the United States Capitol Building. The group also visited with a full-service U.S. ag retailer and toured a farming operation. Representatives from the winning companies met with their embassies and had the opportunity to meet the national and regional Environmental Respect Award winners from the United States.

All of the 2009 winners were chosen and confirmed via teleconference selection events with judges calling in from the United States, Latin America, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East. The process was internet-enabled, with entries posted on the web so that each of the selection committee members could look at the entries and supporting documentation as they evaluated.

The selection committee met on April 23 and May 5, 2009 and included:
  • Elliott Nowels - Moderator
  • Carlos Buzio - CropLife Latin America
  • Keith Jones - CropLife International
  • Martin Gibson - CropLife Asia/Pacific
  • Raymond Forney - DuPont Crop Protection
  • Dave Frabotta - Farm Chemicals International
  • Hazem Ghobashi – Agrimatco for Agriculture, 2008 Ambassador of Respect

“DuPont is committed to environmental stewardship, not just domestically, but throughout the world,” says Jim Collins, vice president and general manager of DuPont Crop Protection. “By introducing the Environmental Respect Awards program to our global customers, we are reinforcing our commitment as a company to excellence in environmental safety and the safe use of agricultural products.”

For the nineteenth year, DuPont Crop Protection and CropLife magazine, the sister publication of Farm Chemicals International, have sponsored the Environmental Respect Awards seeking to honor farm supply businesses that preserve and protect the environment in the course of their service to their farmer-customers. It will be the third year the program has honored winners outside the U.S.

“We are encouraging dealers across the world to step up and take initiatives toward environmental safety, not just for themselves, but for their families, community members, and country,” says Eric Davis, Farm Chemicals International magazine Business Manager. “The most important part of the World of Respect program is the encouragement crop input distributors across the world toward one goal: environmental safety.”
