Environmental Respect Award Regional Winners Announced

Five top farm supply retail businesses have been selected as Environmental Respect Award regional winners in the United States for 2010. Winners were selected May 6 in Willoughby. The winners are (alphabetized by state):

Crop Production Services
Fort Morgan, Colorado

Willard Agri-Service
Greenwood, Delaware

Crop Production Services
Snow Hill, North Carolina

Quincy Farm Chemicals
Quincy, Washington

Landmark Services Company
Evansville, Wisconsin

For 20 years, the Environmental Respect Awards have been the agricultural industry’s highest recognition for environmental stewardship among U.S. agricultural retailers, those who serve farmers and ranchers with the nutrients, pest control and agronomic information critical to effective crop production.

A panel of industry experts gather each year to recognize achievement in environmental stewardship, professional excellence, and community involvement. The winners above won the award based on evidence of excellence in site design, in-plant storage and handling procedures, emergency preparedness and response, proper application and leadership in safety and stewardship among customers and employees.

Members of the 20th Anniversary selection committee were, Dr. Raymond Forney, DuPont Crop Protection, Wilmington, Del.; Kristin Morris, DuPont Crop Protection, Wilmington, Del.; Rex Runyon, CropLife America, Washington, D.C.; Michelle Hummel, Agricultural Retailers Association, Washington, D.C.; Pam Guffain, The Fertilizer Institute, Washington, D.C.; Mike Wilson, 2009 National winner, Wabash Valley Service, Browns, Ill.; Allen Fetters, Simplot Grower Solutions (formerly Ripon Farm Service), 1991 National Winner; Pat McConnell, The McGregor Co., 1993 National Winner; Ron Stutsman, Eldon C. Stutsman Farm Service, 1992 Regional Winner; Paul Schrimpf, CropLife magazine, Willoughby, Ohio; and Al Strohmaier, CropLife magazine, Willoughby, Ohio.

"DuPont is pleased to congratulate the winners of the 2010 Environmental Respect Awards and applauds their accomplishments in environmental stewardship," says Jim Collins, president, DuPont Crop Protection. "These leaders are helping to advance environmental safety and the safe use of agricultural products, and we hope they will inspire others who share our passion and desire to elevate environmental stewardship around the world.”

Each regional winner will receive the distinctive Environmental Respect Award personalized crystal sculpture, a statewide press campaign geared toward select print and broadcast media, and a public relations kit.

The winning agribusinesses also compete for the national Environmental Respect Awards. The national winner will be named at a special ceremony in the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. in July.

I have been asked a question to which I do not know the answer and need your help in answering. What states make up each of the five regions? Why were applications submitted by some state locations but that state has no state winner?

Hello James! The selection panel reviews each entrant's application at length to make their decisions on winners -- it is a fairly rigorous process! If there was only 1 or a couple applications in a certain state, and the panel did not feel those entrants scored high enough for a state award, no state award was given. I hope this helps James! Please email kim.a.mccloskey@gmail.com if you have any additional questions! Kim
