Hector A Bertone SA was named an Ambassador of Respect for Latin America for the work the company has done in its community focusing on the environment and sustainability. The recognition came as part of the Environmental Respect Awards sponsored by Corteva AgriScience and presented by AgriBusiness GlobalTM and CropLife® magazines. AgriBusiness Global interviewed Analia Bertone, Architect/Partner with Hector A Bertone, about the company’s recognition.
How did it feel to be named an Ambassador of Respect (which marks you as a standout even among the winners)?
It really was a big surprise for me. I did not expect this distinction. It is a (source of) pride for me to receive this award as it is the recognition of the enormous work done by the company (and its) actions on sustainability and environmental respect.
Why is environmental respect/sustainability so important to your organization?
For our company, environmental respect is not something minor; we carry out actions to improve both the performance of our buildings and the community. We believe that the role that we fulfill in society as disseminators of good agricultural practices and the conservation of the environment is fundamental, as well as changing the vision that is being given to agricultural inputs.
What more can your company do to promote the concept/practices of sustainability in your community?
(We can) promote technical assistance, promote respect for the environment and the conservation of native forests, and raise awareness that we are all responsible: producers, commercial distributors, technicians, and agrichemical companies. (We must consider the impact of) the actions we perform in the environment, and we have the duty to minimize the effects in the same. We must raise awareness about the final disposal of agricultural inputs containers.
What other thoughts, if any, would you like to share on the program, the award, or the idea of environmental respect?
That it is possible to work while taking care of the environment, that much remains to be done, that together we can add a grain of sand from the role we play in our community. From our company we want to participate in the year 2019 of the “Agrolimpio” program that operates on the collection and final disposal of agricultural inputs packaging.
