The DuPont family has a long and storied connection to Wilmington, DE and the surrounding communities. It would be hard to overstate the family’s impact on the area. Businesses, hospitals, hotels, and a variety of other sites share the DuPont name or were developed or supported by a leaf on that family tree. The Longwood Gardens are no exception.
Pierre S. DuPont began developing the land that would become Longwood Gardens in the early 1900s. The site, now 1,077 acres, boasts indoor and outdoor gardens with names like: Acacia Passage, Banana House, Orchid House, Cow Lot, Bonsai Display, Children’s Corner, Wisteria Garden, and Forest Walk, to name a few.
A visit to the Longwood Gardens has become a regular stop on the Environmental Respect Award agenda. The ERA program is sponsored by DuPont and presented by CropLife® and AgriBusiness Global magazines.
