Cartersville Elevator Inc. - Mason City, IA
There is a lot of family history at stake – two generations worth – in the day-to-day business at Cartersville Elevator Inc. in Mason City, IA. Since 1967 when Frank and Ann Weiner purchased the first Cartersville Elevator, the family owned and operated company has grown to five locations that span six counties in northern Iowa.
Plans for the newest Mason City outlet came about in 1995 when Cartersville Elevator purchased land with rail service on the southeast edge of town. The fully automated plant began operating in March 1997 and boasts storage capacities of 2.8 million gallons of liquid fertilizer, 30,000 gallons of liquid chemical, 3,000 tons of dry fertilizer, 35,000 gallons in overhead tanks and a mixer capacity of 15,000 gallons.
“We are capable of producing 450 tons of finished product every hour,” says Steve Weiner, agronomy manager. “And we have the equipment to service 50,000 acres per season.”
Carterville’s facility wasn’t just built for shear size; it also has a state of the art containment system, built specifically to provide the highest level of protection from potential hazards.
