Chungbuk Agricultural Cooperative - South Korea
“We are here to support and help farmers,” says Mansoon Park, purchasing manager at Chungbuk Agricultural Cooperative.
Chungbuk knows that environmentally sound agricultural products beget a clean environment, and a clean environment begets better crops and higher yields. Environmental protection is the No. 1 priority of the company, and it invests heavily in it in order to protect its future sustainability.
Headquartered in Chungbuk, South Korea, the company was founded in 1998 and distributes agricultural, forest, livestock and marine products.
Additionally, Chungbuk provides labor support for farmers during the busy season. Farmers are able to take advantage of the benefit of Chungbuk’s brand name recognition and sell their products under this label to increase margins. The company also sends damaged produce to plants for processing into juice concentrate.
Chungbuk is a market holding company and a cooperative affiliated with the larger South Korean National Agricultural Cooperative Federation (NACF), a group of farmers who support each other financially and with agronomic services instead of relying on government funding. The NACF offers its members training on farmers’ rights, support for the development of new agricultural technologies and marketing support for different stages of the supply chain.
South Korea participates in free trade agreements (FTAs) with the U.S., EU, ASEAN, Singapore, Chile, Peru and India and is negotiating FTAs with multiple other countries and regions.
