The Córdoba, Argentina-based retailer was also one of four companies honored as a 2018 Ambassador of Respect during a ceremony in October 2018 in Washington, DC, by ERA sponsor Corteva AgriScience. Here is an inside look at Hector A Bertone.
At Hector A Bertone SA, based in Córdoba, Argentina, commitment to environmental respect stretches beyond its customer and into the community.
One example is its support of rural schools. “Given their marginalization and the great distance between them and urban areas, we consider it of utmost importance to work together with these institutions to improve the future of these children,” says Analia Bertone, Director.
In 2017 Hector A Bertone’s NAVIDAR campaign invited employees, customers, and suppliers to donate food and toys. In 2018 the company plans to paint a rural school and give pro-garden workshops to students and their parents. It also supports two soup kitchens in the city every three months and supports the students of the National University of Villa María and of the secondary schools with internships at the company.
Some of the stewardship-based improvements the company has made in the past year include: installing a fire extinguishing network, certified by the volunteer fire department with water storage tanks on the premises; acquiring a reach-type electric forklift with the objective of reducing CO2 emissions; and achieving a “Premium” certification on its agrichemical storage facility by Argentina’s CASAFE agency.
Bertone plans to continue its environmental stewardship efforts in the coming months, through working in the country’s Agro-Clean program, installing solar panels for energy production, and reducing its carbon footprint, as well as certifying four facilities from different branches of the company with CASAFE.
